“We Have Only One PDP”: Wike Dismisses Faction Claims as Convention Holds March 29

Minister of the Federal Capital Territory Nyesom Wike has declared that there is no parallel leadership in the Peoples Democratic Party, insisting that the party remains united despite internal tensions. Speaking after inspecting infrastructure projects in Abuja, Wike said the national convention scheduled for March 29 will proceed as planned. His comments come as the Turaki-led faction, backed by Governors Seyi Makinde and Bala Mohammed, announced that reconciliation efforts with the Wike group have commenced following an advisory from the Court of Appeal.

Wike’s statement directly contradicts the existence of a rival faction, despite clear divisions within the party.
The national convention set for March 29 will go ahead, signaling that Wike’s camp is pushing forward with its agenda.
Turaki’s faction has initiated reconciliation efforts following a Court of Appeal advisory, suggesting a possible path to unity.
The Appeal Court previously nullified the November 2025 Ibadan convention that produced Turaki as chairman.
Both factions claim legitimacy, with Wike insisting there is only one PDP while the other side seeks reconciliation.

As the PDP’s March 29 convention approaches, Wike’s dismissal of factional divisions contrasts with ongoing reconciliation efforts, leaving the party’s path to unity uncertain ahead of the 2027 elections.
