Arsenal drop major team news hint on Mikel Arteta’s starting XI for Sheffield United clash

Arsenal may have dropped a potential hint on Mikel Arteta’s starting XI for today’s Premier League fixture against Sheffield United. The Gunners are one of just two sides that remain undefeated in the English top-flight this term, having accrued 21 points from their opening nine league outings.

Next up for the north London outfit is a home game against the Blades, who currently sit bottom of the table, with the newly-promoted side accumulating just one point so far this campaign. But Arteta will be without first-team stars Thomas Partey and Gabriel Jesus, who both sustained respective muscle injuries earlier in the week.

Holding midfielder Partey picked up a thigh issue in training whilst Jesus suffered from a hamstring problem that forced him off in the final few minutes of Tuesday’s Champions League victory over Sevilla.

Ahead of kick-off, Arsenal’s official X (formerly known as Twitter) account has posted a matchday preview, with Declan Rice, Leandro Trossard and Takehiro Tomiyasu all on display, perhaps a hint that the trio could be in line to start this afternoon.

Rice has been an ever-present in the starting XI this term but Trossard and Tomiyasu have started just one and two league games respectively. Tomiyasu excelled off the bench during last week’s 2-2 draw against Chelsea before coming in from the start on Tuesday when his side won in Spain.

Meanwhile, Trossard will hope for a starting berth up front given Jesus’ aforementioned absence. The Belgian international is more than capable of operating as a false nine, a role he has frequently been utilised in during his time at the Emirates Stadium.
