Recall that there was unrest in some parts of Rivers on Wednesday, June 19, 2024, as many youths took over the Port Harcourt City Council secretariat.

According to the youths, Wike who is currently the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory sent police operatives to attack them.

As a result, on Tuesday, June 18, 2024, some men were seen in a video pulling down Wike’s statue and smashing it to the ground.

Wike, the immediate past governor of Rivers State has been involved in a political feud with his former protégé and successor, Siminalayi Fubara.

The feud is said to have begun in October 2023 when the pro-Wike lawmakers initiated an impeachment plot against Governor Fubara, and has continued to escalate, defying mediations.

Reacting to the latest chaos in Rivers where a statue belonging to Wike was pulled down, Shehu Sani said,

“Haba, Rivers youth, why did you forcefully removed and smashed Wike statue? If you don’t want it you would have just gently unplug it, wrap it, put it in a carton and keep it in the store.”

Some Nigerians on social media trooped to his comment section to share their thoughts.

@donald_segun: Wike is now history to them so why not do away with his bust statue. Fubara is now the chief emperor of Rivers state and the loyalty of the people of Rivers state has shifted from Wike to Fubara.

@anuforo: Wike set a bad precedence that will hunt him for a longtime…He governed Rivers State in a mafia leadership style of the Bonannos and the Gabinos crime family of 1930s in New York City. “The end justifies the means.”

@kafilat_sulu: Backed by politicians, done by paid political thugs,, it’s their job. It has nothing to do with rivers youth. Rivers youths are not notorious

@INftking: I support smashing Wike’s statue.
He’s not worthy to have his statue put up anywhere
Wike thinks he’s popular.
He didn’t understand, people were with him then, bc he was fighting a just cause.
When he usurped the Will of the people & rigged Rivers for APC, he lost his popularity

@Ifenabo1: As if fubara will remain in power till eternity…
He don’t know if he will win second term though…
Tinubu did it ambode
He can do it to fubara
