Fans couldn’t help but notice the ‘timing’ of Cristiano Ronaldo’s social media post as Manchester United collapsed in the latter stages of their Premier League clash against Chelsea.

It looked like Erik ten Hag’s side would walk away from Stamford Bridge with all three points on Thursday night after goals from Alejandro Garnacho [2] and Bruno Fernandes gave them a 3-2 lead going into injury-time.

But in one of the most dramatic endings to a game in Premier League history, Cole Palmer equalised from the spot after Diogo Dalot appeared to make contact with Noni Madueke’s leg.

And moments later, in the 110th minute, boyhood United fan Palmer scored a deflected effort from just inside the box to complete his hat-trick and give Chelsea a 4-3 lead.

Amid the drama in West London, former Manchester United forward Cristiano Ronaldo posted on social media and, although it wasn’t about the game itself, fans were quick to comment.

The 39-year-old, who is currently this season’s top scorer in the Saudi Pro League with 29 goals in 24 games, uploaded a picture of himself on his phone with the caption: “Happy days”.

It may well have been a mere coincidence, with the tweet being posted at 10:16pm – just after Cole Palmer equalised from the spot. But that didn’t stop fans from making the same comment.

Happy days 💚

One fan wrote: “The timing is crazy,” while another commented: “You can’t tell me he didn’t do that on purpose.”

A third said: “There’s no way this is a coincidence,” and a fourth commented: “The timing he’s so funny for this.”

A fifth added: “This post was obviously being planned before Chelsea had even gotten a penalty and United was winning lmao. You’re telling me he had time to do all this before Palmer equalised? This was clearly not a dig at United.”

Ronaldo left Manchester United by mutual consent in late 2022 following his explosive interview with Piers Morgan, where he said he did not respect Erik ten Hag.

He soon penned a record-breaking deal worth a reported £177-million-a-year with Saudi Pro League side Al Nassr.
