The state chairman of the PDP, Hon. Chris Hassan, disclosed this at a press conference in Jos on Thursday.

He said the local government chairman of the party was abducted on September 25, 2023, at Bukuru Total Junction by some personnel in military uniform.

He pointed out that the Hon. Tari was abducted around 1:30 pm after a meeting with his Executive Committee of the Jos South Local Government Chapter at the party office in Bukuru, where he picked up his niece on his way to attend to a family matter.

“He stopped at Total Filling Station, Bukuru, where he parked to respond to calls. Suddenly, two Toyota Hilux Pick-up trucks in military colours and number plates, men in Nigerian army uniform, surrounded him and bundled him into one of the Toyota Hilux Pick-up trucks while one of the soldiers forced his niece out of his private car, and they proceeded to an unknowing destination with no information from his abductors.

“Until this time of this press briefing, we have not heard from him or his abductors, nor has his family been informed of his whereabouts or the reason for his abduction.

“We have taken steps by reporting to the various security agencies in the state to investigate his whereabouts. The party is worried about his safety because his absence is causing serious concerns to the party and the Jos South local government area.”

The state chairman said the abduction, carried out in a commando style, could breach the fragile peace being enjoyed in the state.

Speaking with the Nigerian Tribune, the Media Information Officer of Operation Safe Haven, Captain Oya James, said the command is unaware of the incident.

According to him, the fact that the criminals were cited in military uniforms does not automatically mean they were military men, adding that the command has recently arrested criminals in military uniforms.

He challenged the PDP and other people at the scene when the man was abducted to come out with evidence that would make the military go after them.
