How suspected wanted kidnapper arrested at Abuja hajj camp

A suspected kidnapper, Yahaya Zango, has been arrested at the hajj camp in Abuja while undergoing screening ahead of the airlift of Muslim pilgrims to Saudi Arabia.

A security source confirmed the arrest on Sunday.

The source said Zango, a resident of Paikon-Kore in Gwagwalada area council of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), was apprehended by operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS).

He said the suspect had been declared wanted over his alleged involvement in multiple kidnapping incidents.

“It was this afternoon during the screening at the hajj camp in airport when the DSS operatives apprehended him and whisked him away,” the source told Daily Trust.

He added that Zango presented his international passport and mingled with other intending pilgrims before he was identified and arrested.

A senior official of the Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Board, who asked not to be named, also confirmed the incident.

The DSS has yet to officially comment on the arrest at the time of filing this report.
