‘It’s total madness’, Shehu Sani commends Tinubu for rejecting N942bn census budget

A former lawmaker who represented Kaduna Central at the Nigerian Senate has commended President Bola Tinubu for rejecting the N942 billion budget presented by the National Population Commission for conducting the next census.

Sani described the NPC’s demand for such an amount of money for the purpose of population census as total madness.

In a post made on his X account, the former lawmaker said, the rejection of the budget presented before the president is quite commendable.

He wrote, “National Population Commission request for almost a trillion naira just to count the number of Nigerians is total madness. The rejection of their budget is commendable.”

Recall that President Tinubu had promised to set up a committee to align the census budget presented before him to match government’s current financial realities.

He also recommended the deployment of members of the National Youth Services (NYSC) for the proposed population census exercise.
