Obi, a leading member of the party says the National Executive Council (NEC) will meet in line with the constitution of the party to make a decision that has rocked the party since the second term of National Chairman, Julius Abure.

According to him, the decision on whether or not Abure maintains his position as Chairman will depend on the outcome of the meeting.

He made this known in response to questions from journalists after he addressed the Chairman of the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) Transition Committee, headed by former President of the NLC, Abdulawaheed Omar.

The NLC Transition Committee was at the Labour Party to take over the party secretariat but was denied access, as Peter Obi and other stakeholders were already holding a peace meeting there.

According to him, the leadership challenge in the Labour Party can be resolved by the stakeholders.

He said: “When we come together as a family, we will make decisions as a family. The party has a constitution and a National Executive Council, and everyone, including myself and Governor Otti, will be there to decide.

“We cannot say someone is at the gate and tell your wife to leave; everyone must be present before dissolving a marriage.

“The protest is good because it shows that everyone wants us to organize ourselves better. They are part of the family, and in a family, people agitate and misunderstandings are part of the living process.”
