Many Dead as Members of Kano Delegation to Nat’l Sports Festival Die in Fatal Crash

At least 21 members of the Kano State delegation returning from the 22nd National Sports Festival have died in a tragic road accident in Kura Local Government Area of Kano State. The victims, mainly athletes and officials, were travelling in one of the vehicles conveying the state’s contingent from Ogun State, where the festival had just concluded.

The accident occurred around 9:00 a.m. on Saturday when their vehicle fell off a bridge near Dakstalle town, approximately 50 kilometres from their destination in Kano.

The vehicle, carrying about 35 passengers, was said to be the last in a convoy of eight buses transporting the team.

One of the survivors, Ado Salisu, recounted the incident, saying the team had been on the road since Thursday night.

“The Kano contingents travelled with about 8 vehicles, and the bus that was involved in the accident was the last bus,” Salisu said.

Several others who sustained injuries in the crash were reportedly taken to the Kura General Hospital for urgent medical attention.

The National Sports Festival, which began on May 18 ended on Thursday. Team Delta emerged as overall champions of the event hosted in Ogun State.
