The Rivers State House of Assembly has summoned the Chairman of the State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC), Justice Adolphus Enebeli (retd), to appear before it within 48 hours regarding the conduct of the 2024 local government elections.

The summon was issued during plenary on Wednesday, presided over by Speaker Martin Amaewhule.

Lawmakers expressed concerns over the legitimacy of the previous election and demanded explanations from the RSIEC Chairman. They warned that if he fails to appear within the given timeframe, a warrant could be issued for his arrest.

In addition to summoning Justice Enebeli, the Assembly resolved to formally request Governor Siminalayi Fubara to submit the names of all his commissioners who were not screened by the Amaewhule-led House.

Meanwhile, the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission has announced that fresh local government elections will take place on August 9, 2025.
