‘Senators run errands in Akpabio’s house’, ex-lawmaker Elisha Abbo opens up

A former Senator who represented Adamawa North Senatorial District, Elisha Abbo has alleged that the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio runs the Red Chambers like his personal empire.

Speaking on Arise Television’s Prime Time Show, Abbo said Akpabio has constantly threatened lawmakers who oppose him with removal.

Alleging that the Senate President was instrumental in the removal of five lawmakers from different senatorial districts, Abbo said Akpabio has continued to suppress and intimidate his colleagues in the Upper Chamber.

He alleged that for fear of being victimised, Senators run errands, including serving the Senate President tea at his residence whenever they visit.

“Do you know that in Akpabio’s house, Senators serve him tea? Well, I am telling you now. And I told him, ‘You are no longer a governor. These Senators are our colleagues, not your commissioners. They are not here to serve you tea,” Abbo said.

The former lawmaker added that he is all for upholding the integrity of the Nigerian Senate and the legislature at large as there are efforts to take the system to ruins.

“I have always defended the integrity of the Senate. The issue is the leadership, not the institution itself,” the former lawmaker said.
