Tafida stated in an interview with Daily Trust TV that Obasanjo called a meeting where plans for the quest for a third term were discussed. He claimed that he and other conference participants informed Obasanjo that his attempt to win a third term would fail because the governors behind him had strained relationships with the senators representing their states, making it impossible for them to persuade the senators to back the effort.
