The Secretary to the Government of the Federation, SGF George Akume, has urged people of Benue State not to allow miscreants to divide them.

Akume said this after a visit to the Tor Tiv, HRM Prof. James Ayatse, following an attack in Yelewata community, in Benue State, where suspected Fulani herdsmen killed about 200 residents and displaced thousands.

In a terse statement on X, Akume revealed that a resolution for peace has commenced on the directive of President Bola Tinubu.

He said, “Following Mr. President’s visit to Benue in the wake of the Yelewata killings, I met with the Tor Tiv, HRM Prof. James Ayatse, and the Och’Idoma, HRM Agabaidu Elaigwu Odogbo. This marks the beginning of a Presidential peace initiative to end bloodshed in our dear state.

“On the President’s directive, a strategic peace committee has been set in motion—to identify root causes, heal divides, and rebuild trust. Our revered monarchs are central to this effort. They’ve pledged full support and urged communities to give peace a chance.

“I assured our royal fathers of Mr. President’s resolve to bring lasting peace to Benue. Miscreants must not find room to divide us. Consultations have begun. The path to reconciliation has opened—and Benue will rise again. #BenuePeace #TinubuAdministration #SGF.”
