President Bola Tinubu has directed the immediate suspension of impeachment proceedings against Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara.
Tinubu, however, set a condition that Fubara must meet for the impeachment to be halted.
According to him, Fubara must see the Minister of the FCT, Nyesom Wike, as the political leader in Rivers State, regardless of his leanings with the Peoples Democratic Party and the All Progressives Congress.
Tinubu spoke while brokering a peace deal between Fubara and his predecessor, Wike, in Abuja recently.
“Wike is the Political Leader in Rivers State. Fubara must know this. However, this impeachment plot against the governor of Rivers State must stop immediately,” the President said.
MyNigeria recently reported that the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, issued a stern warning on Friday, stating that he and his supporters would forcibly gain access to Yakubu Gowon Stadium for their upcoming rally if the Rivers State Government continued to deny them entry. He emphasised that “heaven will not fall” should the facility be breached.
Wike made this declaration in Port Harcourt during the launch of senatorial and local government coordinators of the Renewed Hope Ambassadors, an event organised to support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration ahead of the 2027 general elections.
He also revealed that his team had submitted an official request to use the stadium but was denied, a move he described as unprecedented.
“We applied to the state government to use the Yakubu Gowon Stadium and they refused. Next time, if we apply and they refuse again, we will break it and nothing will happen,” Wike said.
