Senior health experts have said it is not safe to have sexual intercourse when a woman is observing her menstrual period, warning that it could lead to the spread of infections.
They cautioned that the act could expose partners to the risk of contracting HIV, gonorrhea, hepatitis and other sexually transmitted infections.
The physicians explained that vaginal sexual intercourse with a menstruating woman could lead to an increase in the flow of menstrual blood, because the veins of the uterus were congested and prone to rupture, and thus could be damaged easily.
