‘Two’ Kano men die inside pit toilet while retrieving mobile phone

The Kano State Fire Service has confirmed the death of two men who fell into a pit toilet while trying to retrieve a mobile phone in Bazabe Quarters, Albasu Local Government Area.

This was contained in a statement signed by the Public Relations Officer, ACFO Saminu Yusif Abdullahi, on Sunday.

According to the statement, the incident happened on Saturday.

“The Fire Service received an emergency call around 11:16 a.m. from Inspector Auwalu, who reported that two people had fallen into a toilet pit.

“The Fire Service team from Takai LGA was quickly sent to the scene,” the statement read.

According to the statement, the first victim, Usman Muhd, 40, entered the pit toilet to recover his mobile phone, popularly known as Indon Kauye, after it accidentally fell in. Unfortunately, he could not come out.

Another man, Ibrahim Inuwa, also aged about 40, went in to help him.

He managed to tie a rope around Usman so he could be pulled out but also lost consciousness in the process.

“Our men rushed to the scene and rescued both men. Sadly, they were both unconscious and later confirmed dead.

“The bodies were handed over to the Divisional Police Officer of Albasu LGA, Kabiru Magawata, for further action,” the statement added.
